Deniz Koldaş & Nazlı Mutlu
İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi’nde İç Mimarlık eğitimleri sırasında tanışan Deniz Koldaş ve Nazlı Mutlu, mezun olduktan sonra tasarımda deneysel malzeme araştırmaları yaparken yaratım sürecini bütünsel olarak deneyimlemek için kendi tasarladıkları mobilyaları bir atölyede ürettiler. Bu dönemde birçok tasarım yarışmasına katıldılar. Mekanın kuramsal yönüne ilgi duymalarının yanında, tasarlamak ve üretmek konusunda da tutkulu ve heyecanlılar. Şeylerin kabul edilen hallerinin ötesini keşfetmeye meraklılar.
Deniz Koldaş and Nazlı Mutlu met during their undergraduate studies in Interior Design at Istanbul Technical University. After graduation, they produced their own furniture in the workshop in order to experience the creative process holistically while researching experimental materials in design. During this period, they have also participated in many design competitions. They are interested in the theoretical aspect of space, yet passionate and excited about designing and producing. They are curious about digging and exploring beyond the accepted understanding of things.
İlk Tasarım Önerisi
Blocked, göründüğünden daha fazlasını vadeden ahşap bir küp olarak tasarlandı. Kolektif hafızada yer alan ahşap küp oyuncak ile ilişkilenme alışkanlığı, Blocked’un kapalı küp görünümünde tekrar ederek obje ile etkileşim kurmaya davet eder. Tasarımın formu, ahşap malzeme ile uyum gösterir. Oyuncak benzeri yapı; formunu oluşturan parçaların birbirleriyle, zeminle ve kullanıcıyla ilişkilenmesi ile oluşur. Küp formu, kilit parçanın kaldırılıp kalan üç modülün ayrılarak zemine uygun yerleştirilmesi ile kullanılır hale gelir.
Initial Design Proposal
Blocked is designed as a wooden cube, which promises more than what it shows at first glance. The practice of interacting with wooden cubic toys is shared through collective memory and is retold with the invitation of interaction created with the closed cubic form of Blocked. The form of the design harmonizes with wood. Its toy-like structure is built by the interactions of modules with each other, the floor and the user. Its cubic form becomes open to use by taking off the locking piece and placing the other three properly on the floor.
Tasarım Geliştirme ve Üretim Süreci
Tasarımın temel kararlarından birisi Blocked’un hareket edebilme kapasitesi olduğu için üretim süreci esnasında malzemenin yüksek öz ağırlığından dolayı oluşabilecek problemler tartışıldı. Ancak formun ve malzemenin sert yapısının birbirini destekleyerek çalışması, ürünün masif ve kütlesel olmasından kaynaklı ağırlık sorununu geri plana iterek malzemeye sadık kalınmasını sağladı.
Ayrıca Blocked’un bütünsel algılanması ve görünümü açısından dikkate alınması gereken ahşabın elyaf yönü, liflerin doğrultusu, birimlerin birbirleri ile kurdukları ilişki, boşlukların minimize edilmesi gibi ince detaylar üzerinde üretici ile birlikte alınan kararlar sonucunda Blocked son halini aldı.
Design Development and Production Process
Since one of the main decisions in the design was Blocked's portability, the problems that may arise due to the significant weight of the material were discussed during the production process. However, the fact that the form and the rigid structure of the material work in support of each other pushed the weight problem due to the solid nature of the product to the background and ensured that the material was faithful to the material.
In addition, Blocked took its final form as a result of the decisions taken together with the manufacturer on fine details such as the grain direction of the wood, the direction of the fibers, the relationship of the units with each other, and the minimization of gaps, which should be taken into account in terms of the holistic perception and appearance of Blocked.
Deniz Koldaş & Nazlı Mutlu tarafından tasarlanan Blocked, ömrü boyunca 80,4 kg CO2e'yi (karbondioksit eşdeğeri) atmosferden uzak tutacaktır.
