Istanbul Festival of Architecture 2020

Istanbul Festival of Architecture 2020 took place online between December 5th-11th.

Festival was organized by The Circle - an architecture-focused research platform for arts and culture - and Binat İletişim & Danışmanlık - an office that works on architectural publications and sectoral communication projects - , and was sponsored by Vitra.

Paradigm Shift

Festival’s theme was inspired by the 2020’s global agenda and was coined as ‘Paradigm Shift’ by the Advisory Board and the Organization Team in reference to recently changing paradigms all over the globe. The event program was determined in accordance with the theme Paradigm Shift. As for that, in the events, participants were given the opportunity and the common grounds on which they could be a part of debates concerning culture of architecture and urban matters.

48 events in total…

During the festival 48 events were hosted online. The event program was created with an inclusive approach. 21 of the 48 events were selected as a result of an Open Call, aiming to connect, give voice and build a dialog with/between everyone. Festival’s program included panels, workshops, performances, Keynote, Open Call, Kid’s Hour, Open Microphone, Cinema Belt and Open Route events.

Participation from
62 countries…

Festival events took place online on Hopin - an online platform for large gatherings - for a week. Events were free of charge and were completely open to everyone’s participation. The festival welcome participants from all 81 cities of Turkey and also 62 other countries. Such broad and international participation gave us the opportunity to debate on festival’s theme on a global scale. In total, 3710 people - both from Turkey and abroad - participated in the events of the festival.

Festival, announced all over Istanbul…

Festival reached a high number of interaction on all online platforms. We interacted with 800.000+ people through Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin. Also besides social media, with the help news platforms, billboards located in 50 spots all over Istanbul and MODYO TV’s on public transportation, our reach extended by 100.000+ more people.
